Silence

Silence

The moon, just a couple of days past fullness, is hidden by invisible clouds.

Here by the little lake there is complete silence, respected even by the indomitable crickets. The darkness seems to have swallowed not only light but sound as well.

No breeze no rustling leaves no lapping wavelets.

Is there anybody out there? I shout soundlessly into the darkness and promptly feel foolish, as if I had allowed an advertising jingle to play in my head.

flapping of wings

a water bird squawks

hoarsely
